This wonderful 13th century pub was built by the Church to offer food and rest to weary travellers and to sell the beer, wine and spirits made by the Church, a practice that previously would have happened in the church itself.
Nothing much changes in this part of Devon and the weary traveller, as well as the locals can still find a warm welcome, stunning food, great ales, fine wines and spirits.
No, nothing much changes in these parts, 800 years and still going strong!
Your hosts Anthony and Nicky took on the tenancy of The Church House Inn in October 2009. With over 40 years of experience between them they understand the importance of a good Pub at the heart of a village.
Your Head Chef is David Ward who along with his second chef Gizmo has returned to The Church House Inn with Anthony and Nicky with whom they share a passion for traditional food, sometimes with a twist, made using local produce.
Our meat, game and fish is all sourced locally as are the vegetables when seasons allow. Our sausages and faggots are made for us by our Award winning butchers, G T Orsmans just up the road in Shaldon.
Our fish swims in from G.B. Fisheries of St Marychurch, Torquay.
And our game just seems to appear. Nuff said!
